Coimbra became a city during the Roman domination. It was called AEMINIUM then.
Situated on the banks of the Mondego river, Coimbra is known worldwide because of it 700-years-old University, founded by King D.Dinis and definitely transferred to Coimbra in 1537.
Coimbra is located between Lisbon and Oporto, placed in the heart of "Beira Litoral" region. It's population is about 140 000 inhabitants approximately.
In coimbra, one can make a variety of trips in order to discover the historic treasures and its architectorical diversity. Its site is crossed between the north and the south and by a hill, where the upper area of the city is situated with several monuments and the university. The lower area of the city is also full of surprises awaiting to be revealed, with corners filled up with history and academical spirit.
